Frequently Asked Questions

About TreeHouse in General

What is TreeHouse?

TreeHouse is a national organization that empowers the faith community to serve teens through mentorship and a faith-neutral support group program.

What is the program like?

The TreeHouse program is a safe place for teens to share about their week in a support group, build a support system, and develop social-emotional skills.

Is TreeHouse a Christian organization?

Yes, TreeHouse is part of the Christian faith community. But their weekly program is an inclusive, nonjudgemental, faith-neutral space for any teen to find care and support.

Is it OK for schools to send kids to TreeHouse, even though it’s at a church?

Absolutely. TreeHouse has been partnering with schools for forty years. We are committed that during the weekly program, we don’t offer any religious teaching. We never pressure teens to believe anything—they are loved and accepted exactly as they are.

How do we know we can trust the program?

All TreeHouse staff and volunteers complete training developed in partnership with licensed mental health professionals and grounded in more than 40 years of experience walking alongside teens through emotional and mental health challenges.

What makes TreeHouse different from other youth programs?

While many programs focus on fun or behavior, TreeHouse is built around relationships, emotional support, and a safe environment where teens are known, loved, and never judged.

Is TreeHouse a counseling service?

TreeHouse is not formal therapy, but our programs provide consistent emotional support. We often work alongside counselors, schools, and social workers to surround teens with a full circle of care.

Is there a cost to attend?

No, TreeHouse is completely free for teens and families. Our programs are donor-funded so that finances are never a barrier to participation.

About Teens and Families

Who can attend TreeHouse?

Any teen in grades 7–12 is welcome. TreeHouse is especially designed for teens who need some extra support in mental and emotional wellness—but what teen doesn’t need a little extra support now and then?

Do teens need to be referred?

No referral is necessary. Teens can come on their own, be invited by a friend, or be encouraged by a parent, school staff member, or community partner.

What kinds of teens come to TreeHouse?

Our teens come from all walks of life. Many face tough situations like family instability, anxiety, depression, or school struggles. Others just need a safe space to belong. What unites them is a desire to be seen and supported.

What can a parent expect?

Parents can expect their teen to be part of a safe, structured, and caring environment. They’ll experience support, mentorship, and encouragement, and TreeHouse staff are always available to communicate and partner with families.

Will my teen be pressured into religion?

No. While TreeHouse is built on Christian values and some teens may choose to explore faith, no one is ever pressured to believe or participate in anything faith-based. Every teen is welcomed exactly as they are.

Will my LGBTQ+ teen be welcomed and cared for?

All teens are welcome at TreeHouse. We don’t discriminate or try to convert—every teen is treated with care and dignity. If a teen doesn’t feel safe, then we’re not doing our job.
