As a recent addition to our volunteer team at TreeHouse, Kinsey Austin brings an exciting energy and outlook to our community. Beginning her volunteering this past spring, Kinsey first learned about TreeHouse at her childhood church through an informational meeting about TreeHouse.
“I grew up going to church at Easter and I was really involved in their youth group and all of the activities with that. Once I heard more about TreeHouse, I thought it was a really cool program and similar to what I had growing up, so I wanted to be able to give back to my community in a way that I had benefited from as a teen.”
Currently, Kinsey is a special education teacher and has been able to see firsthand the need for programs like the ones TreeHouse offers. She reflects on her volunteering journey so far, “During the support groups, I’ve learned a lot about how to be resilient. These teens are so strong and are able to face challenges and be flexible. I’ve learned a lot through their experiences and how to do that in my own life. Even just being able to identify your feelings is a huge thing and I’ve seen even in my short amount of time, teens be able to go deeper. Never underestimate a teen and what they are capable of.”
Volunteers like Kinsey are a crucial part of what TreeHouse does. We are so thankful for those who volunteer their time and energy to make a great impact on our teens and community!
